Who are we?

Indian Bengali Community

The Bengali community, both in its homeland and across the globe, maintains a strong sense of identity rooted in its language, rich cultural traditions, and historical contributions.

The Indian Bengali community is a vibrant group, primarily originating from or connected to the Indian state of West Bengal. They speak Bengali (Bangla), an Indo-Aryan language. The majority of Indian Bengalis reside in the Indian state of West Bengal, Assam, and Tripura and other states of India, with significant diaspora communities all over the globe, particularly in the United Kingdom and the United States.

Cultural Traditions Preserved

Bengalis in the U.S. maintain rich traditions in literature, music (Rabindra Sangeet), cuisine, and festivals. Durga Puja is the biggest and most widely celebrated festival, often organized by local Bengali associations.

Thriving Professional Community

Most of the first-generation immigrants came for higher education or job opportunities. The Indian Bengalis are an affluent and well established community that includes professionals in academia, tech and medicine.
